3M™ True Definition Digital Scannertech1a.jpg

The 3M True Definition Scanner is an innovative ultra-fast CAD/CAM system for creating a digital model for the restoration of a decayed, cracked, or chipped tooth with a dental crown. Using a small lightweight wand, the doctor takes a series of digital images of your mouth. The result is a virtual 3-D image that appears immediately on the touch-screen monitor. The image is checked to ensure all the appropriate structures of your mouth are shown. The digital files are then sent electronically to the lab, which creates a high quality, precision-fit crown. The process is faster than a conventional tray-based impression, more comfortable for the patient, and results in a more clinically precise crown.

tech1.jpgDigital X-Rays

Digital x-rays are quickly becoming the standard in dental imaging. Patients close their mouths on a digital sensor instead of film and a computer processes the images. They are available within seconds for viewing on a monitor by the dentist and patient. The doctor can then manipulate the images to help diagnose any existing and potential problems. Since they don’t use film, patients’ radiation exposure can be reduced by up to 80%; making digital x-rays a safer alternative than traditional film x-rays.

Digital x-rays are also friendly to the environment.

Digital Panoramic X-Ray

tech3.jpg tech2.jpg

A digital panoramic x-ray provides a clear picture of the upper and lower teeth and jaws, thus eliminating the need for multiple x-rays in order for the doctor to get a complete view of a patient's dentition, jaws, jaw points, and nasal area.  You simply stand in one spot for about 10 seconds while the scanning unit rotates around your head.  It enables the doctor to detect certain problems like bone anomalies, impacted teeth, oral cancer, infections, and fractures.  The resulting image can easily be shared with specialists via the internet, helping to provide rapid diagnosis and treatment.

Epic 10 Laser by BIOLASE®

tech3a.jpgThe Biloase EPIC 10 diode laser is an advanced technology we use in our practice for a variety of procedures, including:

gingival contouring

treatment of gum disease

treatment of cold sores and canker sores

                                      TMJ discomfort

                                      frenectomy

                                      removal of oral growths

The EPIC laser system emits a light that precisely interacts with the areas to be treated in a low dose and safe manner. Many procedures only require topical anesthetic. Patients experience less bleeding, greater comfort, faster healing, and better clinical results.

Intraoral Camera

The standard x-ray is essential in determining any dental problems you may have, but unfortunately, it may not reveal everything happening inside your mouth. The intraoral camera is a sophisticated imaging device which allows dentists to view the inside of a patient’s mouth. Using a pen-sized camera, images are captured in real time and transmitted to a monitor for viewing. These magnified images can be used by the doctor for diagnosis and to help explain treatment to patients. In addition, the digital images can provide documentation of a patient’s dental condition for their insurance company.

LOGICON Caries Detector

tech5.jpgUsed in conjunction with a digital x-ray system, the Logicon caries computer software program helps in the early detection of proximal (between teeth) cavities.  In the past, these caries have been difficult to diagnose because they cannot always be visually detected.  The Logicon software highlights possible abnormalities, alerting the doctor to take a closer look at the tooth and involved surface.  Clinical studies have proven that using Logicon Caries Detection has been able to identify proximal tooth decay earlier with 92% accuracy.  It helps the doctor decide whether a tooth needs immediate attention, or can be "watched" and reevaluated at a future examination.

DIAGNOdent® Caries Detection

tech5a.jpgThe DIAGNOdent is a small portable laser that detects decay and alerts the dentist with an audible signal and numerical indicator.  When appropriate, the doctor can use the DIAGNOdent to help find areas of beginning decay.

tech6.jpgTHE WAND® Injection System

THE WAND is a computerized injection system which controls the flow of anesthetic for optimal comfort during an injection.  Many patients report that "one of the most dreaded" dental procedures are much more comfortable thanks to THE WAND.  When appropriate, the doctor will use the computerized system to deliver the anesthetic, thus making the experience more comfortable.

Sterilization Center

tech7.jpg tech8.jpg

Our sterilization procedures meet and exceed accepted dental sanitation standards.  Our autoclaves have pressurized, self-locking chambers which heat solutions above their boiling points, thus effectively killing all microorganisms.  To prevent the spread of infection and cross-contamination, all of our dental instruments are steam autoclaved.  For each patient, a sterilized instrument pack is opened at the time of their visit and each operatory is cleaned and wiped down with a sanitizing solution between patients.  At Metuchen Dental Group, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail to ensure our patients' safety.
